Quick, metalheads, what was the best neck-snapping metalcore record released in 2007? No, not As I Lay Dying’s An Ocean Between Us. Not The Bled’s Silent Treatment. C’mon guys, this one’s an easy one.

The absolute best metalcore album of 2007 that should have had neck braces sold alongside it was August Burns Red’s punishing LP Messengers.

From front to back (side to side, sorry lame mosh pit joke), August Burn Red’s sophomore release provided listeners with a soundtrack of relentless and technically proficient guitar work coupled with some of the best drumming we’ve heard from percussionist Matt Greiner. And, not to mention, this record was also the first to feature now longstanding August Burns Red members Dustin Davidson and Jake Luhrs.

So yes, the body of work paired with the pressure of adding two crucial members easily makes this record one that, a decade later, still holds plenty of weight in the metalcore community.

Now, where are we going with this? Well, as we’re sure you are very well aware, the Pennslyvania outfit is currently out celebrating 10 strong years of their powerful release. And, in order to help give you a better look into the tour that’s been crushing cities nationwide, we had our pal Dillon Flowers (yes, the same Dillon Flowers who gave you a firsthand look into Beartooth’s and Attila’s Noise Presents tours) head out to the Messengers Tour to shoot August Burns Red in action as well as support acts Protest The Hero and In Hearts Wake.

To experience the brutality that is August Burns Red’s “Truth Of A Liar,” “Back Burner” and of course “Composure,” be sure to look below. Afterwards, make sure to pick up tickets to see the band out on the road here.
