It’s the day after Valentine’s and you’re probably feeling one of two ways: Elated because you had a fantastic night out with your significant other or disappointed/frustrated and really don’t want to talk about it because Valentine’s Day is a stupid made-up holiday anyway.

This goes out to everyone feeling the latter.

In support of their forthcoming 11-track LP The Stars On Your Ceiling, pop-punk outfit Sleep In. are teaming up with The Noise to debut their brand new single all about the one true thing that probably matters more than any Valentine’s date ever could, their dog Deena.

“This song is about my dog and realizing how important she became to me during a strange time in my life,” explains Sleep In. vocalist Tom Fowler. “It was a celebration of the bond we shared but unfortunately she is no longer with us. Luckily we were able to record her barking before she passed. It’s really awesome for me to have this on the record as a little reminder of her forever.”

Like we said, waaaay more important than any Valentine’s Day date with some dumb human, right?

As for the band’s upcoming album due out March 22nd on Know Hope Records, Fowler adds, “The only real theme that travels across this record is the past. And maybe self-improvement. Most of these songs I wrote about fairly specific points in my life. Some more monumental than others – but all of which are important to me. I think it’s important to remember the stories that you make throughout your life. Especially ones you learn from.”

Continuing where Fowler left off about Sleep In.’s new record, guitarist Eric McNeils says, “We definitely feel this record is a big step forward for us in terms of songwriting. The higher level of pop sensibility was a pretty conscious move on our part. This record was also written in a way where the vocal melodies and lyrics came into the picture very early on in the process, often way before the song was fleshed out with the full band, so it’s far more vocal-centric than past releases. Overall, this record came together very organically and there wasn’t a lot of laboring over the songwriting and arrangements. We really let the music dictate the direction.”
