Noise Exclusive: Hear Safe And Sound Take It To The Roots of 90′s Straight Edge With “It’s Forever, Now”

In the mood for something pissed off and old-school sounding that carries a pretty heavy message? Look no further than Safe And Sound’s vegan straight edge ripper “It’s Forever, Now.”

Starting off with a quote from The Crow, which should already be a sign of good things to come, Safe And Sound’s fiery new single quickly busts the door down with an epic Earth Crisis-inspired riff and pit-inducing vocals.

Moving toward the hard-hitting chorus, that’s when the budding Tacoma, Washington outfit really show off their 90’s hardcore and early 2000’s metal core influence – which, according to drummer Sky Page, was a big part of their upcoming New Age Records release Only In Death.

“Our more apparent influences in writing for this record stem from our collective love of 90’s straight edge bands (Trial, Turning Point, Earth Crisis, Undertow) some of which shared our label and gave us a lot of the political direction we continue to find relevant and push in 2018,” he said. “A little bit less obvious and more nuanced influences on the record range from Sam’s [Reynolds, guitar] love of R&B to my obsession with indie rock and pop bands. I consider Sam to be somewhat of a genius when it comes to figuring out what I’m trying to get out of a song and he and I both push each other and pile on to each other’s songwriting ideas. His songwriting is a little more organic and less influenced by external ideas than mine, and he is way more capable than most people that I know when it comes to taking the bare bones of an idea and giving it texture and feeling.”

“Arda [Alev, guitar] supplements that,” added Page, “and I think (with him being the newest member) our songwriting will continue to grow and challenge ourselves until we get sick of each other and go the way of Oasis, hopefully not anytime soon.”
