Weird Wednesday: 9/3/14

Welcome back everyone to the eighth installment of Weird Wednesday! Today’s the first Wednesday of the month, so let us welcome our new September mascot. We’ll call him Hank the Helicopter.

For those who may be new to this, today is the day we share some material that you may not find on your typical “hardcore blog.” So, before we begin, let us forewarn you: THERE ARE NO BREAKDOWNS IN TODAY’S MUSIC.

After listening to today’s batch of tunes, tweet us at @thenoise and let us know which songs you enjoyed the most.

See you next week!

DZ Deathrays – “Less Out of Sync”

According to their record label, I Oh You, DZ Deathrays are a critically acclaimed two-piece thrash party band from Brisbane. As for us, DZ Deathrays are the kickass Australian version of Death From Above 1979. Whichever description you prefer, we think it’s safe to assume this duo makes some excellent music. If you’re a fan of “Less Out of Sync,” be sure to pick up their new album, Black Rat, which is out now.

Pulled Apart By Horses – “Hot Squash”

We’re not sure which is more intriguing, a band being named Pulled Apart by Horses, a song titled “Hot Squash” or a video with pale, hugging zombie-like creatures. How about, all of the above? Released earlier this year, “Hot Squash” is a loud, upbeat track with a definite Queens of the Stone Age-like vibe. Off their third album Blood, this grungy alternative single is a bit of a newer sound for these boys from the U.K, but don’t let that scare you off. This tune is one you’ll have on repeat for quite some time.

Royal Blood – “Little Monster”

Drum n’ bass is generally reserved for a type of electronic music. However, in regards to Royal Blood, this drum n’ bass combo is reserved for hard-hitting headbanging riffs. Making a huge splash in the hard rock scene with their hit “Out of the Black,” Royal Blood has now released a string of other well-made videos in support of their deafening self-titled album. “Come on Over,” “Figure it Out,” and of course “Little Monster” have all hit YouTube and, as we all figured, they have all racked up a very solid view count. If you’re one of the few who haven’t been able to enjoy what Royal Blood has to offer, be sure to check out their new album. You won’t be disappointed.

The Thin Bloods – “You and You and You”

Living in the desert will make you do some crazy things. In the case of Tempe, Arizona’s the Thin Bloods, dressing up in a luchador mask and dancing in your underwear is probably one of those things. With an electrifying garage punk sound, this trio of rowdy ruffians will no doubt shake you up a bit with “You and You and You.” If you’d like to hear more from the Thin Bloods – which you do — be sure to purchase their newest cassette, Twin Tumors Vol. 2, which is out now on Rubber Brother Records.

RVIVR “Wrong Way/One Way”

Look, we’re going to make this quick. “Wrong Way/One Way” is hands down one of the catchiest and best punk rock tracks we’ve heard in a while. It’s fun, it’s poppy, it’s fast and we love it. Co-vocalists, Matt Canino and Erica Freas, have the perfect balance of grit and glamor and we can’t get enough of it. “Wrong Way/One Way” comes off of 2013’s The Beauty Between, and if you’re a fan of Against Me!, you’re gonna dig this album. You can check it out on Bandcamp here.
