Weird Wednesdays: 7/23/14

Welcome back everyone! It’s Wednesday and if you forgot already, today is the day we toss some new material your way that may not cross your ears otherwise. Before we begin, let us remind you: THERE ARE NO BREAKDOWNS IN TODAY’S MUSIC.

After listening to today’s batch of tunes, tweet us at @thenoise and let us know which songs you enjoyed the most.

Enjoy!

Single Mothers – “Christian Girls”

From the looks of Single Mother’s Bandcamp page, it appears this song was released in 2011. So, why are we just now talking about it, you ask? Who knows, but this song kicks ass. With only two EPs to their name and the last being their Self-Titled release back in 2011, Single Mothers are thankfully still active. With rumors swirling about a new record coming soon, we will be sure to keep you updated as details arrive. For now, enjoy “Christian Girls.”

Junior Battles – “Bunk”

Well, well, well… look what we have here. Junior Battles has gone and created possibly one of the coolest music videos teenage girls must be losing their shit over: a music video created with nothing but Snapchats. Now, we have to say we weren’t expecting one of the first Snapchat music videos to come from a pop-punk band singing about the HBO dramatic series The Wire which hit it big in the mid 2000’s, but hey anything is possible we guess. If you like the track “Bunk,” Junior Battles new album Rally is out now.

Love, Robot – “Machine”

It’s easy to point out this act’s similarities to fellow female fronted bands like Paramore and We Are The In Crowd. But is that necessarily a bad thing? Paramore is currently dominating the Billboard charts and We Are The In Crowd is tearing it up on Warped Tour. So, what’s the big deal? Love, Robot’s common pop rock elements and emotional lyricism is ridiculously infectious and we’re not afraid to admit that we’re hooked. With that said, join us and embrace the Long Island, NY natives by picking up their new album B.A.D which is out now.

Have Mercy – “Let’s Talk About Your Hair”

Fresh off their signing with Hopeless Records, Have Mercy is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their second full-length album which is set to hit stores later this fall. “Let’s Talk About Your Hair” nonetheless, comes off the band’s first release The Earth Pushed Back. With intoxicating lyricism and heartfelt passion soaked throughout this track, it’s hard not to fall in love with this song.

The Hotelier – “Your Deep Rest”

Formally known as the Hotel Years, this Worcester, MA group is currently putting out some of the best pop-punk music around – not to mention some of the best lyrics too. Even though Home, Like NoPlace is There was released back in February, the album has been finding significant airplay around The Noise office as of late. Our favorites tracks include “Housebroken,” “Life in Drag” and of course “Your Deep Rest.” So, if you’re new to the Hotelier, go ahead and check out Home, Like NoPlace is There and let us know what you think.
