Remember yesterday’s Armor For Sleep announcement where we declared 2020 the year of band comebacks? Well, today’s news officially confirms it.
For the first time in nearly a decade, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (aka post-hardcore supergroup D.R.U.G.S.) has released a brand new single titled “King I Am.”
Featuring only ex-Chiodos frontman Craig Owens – former members Aaron Stern (Matchbook Romance), Nick Martin (Sleeping With Sirens), Matt Good (From First To Last) and Adam Russell (Story Of The Year) are not involved as of right now – D.R.U.G.S.’s first new song since 2011′s self-titled release is a hard-hitting motivation anthem.
“I make music for myself to give myself what it is that I need,” explains Owens. “This song wasn’t meant to be cocky or aggressive. What it was meant to be was motivational. It was meant to be a message that, ‘You’re good enough. You need to press on, and you need to feel good about yourself in order to do that.’ I know it can be misconstrued in a million different ways — however people wanna see it — but motivation was my main goal with this.”
As far as what 2020 holds for Owens and his now solo project, the outgoing vocalist said, “I’m not exactly sure what’s next but I am writing the next D.R.U.G.S. album. I started writing it in early December. This song was written in early December. It was produced by my friend Hiram Hernandez. I’ve been working really hard on the album and that’s where my focus is.”
While we all anxiously await what’s next for Owens, be sure to check out “King I Am” below. Afterward, for more from D.R.U.G.S., head here.
