After revealing last week that they’ll be releasing a brand new documentary titled Heart Like A Hand Grenade – which is centered around their 2004 smash record American Idiot – punk rock icons Green Day are back in the news as they have just released the very first look into the upcoming film via a short but elaborate trailer.
While the clip may be brief, fans are able to see multiple live shots, the band working in the studio as well as a glimpse into the writing process for “Jesus of Suburbia.”
In regards to the film as a whole, director John Roecker described his process for shooting the rock doc in his recently posted director’s statement.
“This movie is like a fly on the wall art house piece,” Roecker explained. “It is the first time Green Day allowed someone into the studio to film them.”
The filmmaker continued to add, “This was eleven years ago and the film you are about to see has never been seen. It became a lost film, an urban legend in some ways. Some fans thought it was not real that it was some sort of prank the band and I created. And finally the little film that could is being released.”
