Just in case you didn’t watch the 60th annual Grammys awards last night (don’t worry, you didn’t miss anything rock related) and haven’t read who the winners were in the four (extremely overlooked) rock and metal categories, here you go:
Best Rock Performance: Leonard Cohen – You Want It Darker
Best Metal Performance: Mastodon – Sultan’s Curse
Best Rock Song: Foo Fighters – Run
Best Rock Album: The War On Drugs – A Deeper Understanding
Now, if you’re wondering why we might be a little salty this morning regarding last night’s award show, that’s because (as Avenged Sevenfold alluded to last week) none of the rock and metal categories were televised. So, while head-scratching awards like Best Comedy Album were shown to the millions of TV viewers, Best Rock Performance, Best Metal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album were instead announced and handed out ahead of the CBS broadcast.
As you can imagine, lots of rock fans were pretty frustrated with last night’s outcome – not to mention, the only “rock performance” of the night came from U2 and Sting (with special guest Shaggy).
Anyway, if you’d like to see Mastodon accept their award for Best Metal Performance beating out August Burns Red, Body Count, Code Orange and Meshuggah, be sure to look below.
