In support of his upcoming album Awkard & Depressed from Canadian Softball (aka the “emo” version of his countless fictional bands), Jarrod Alonge has just released an emo medley titled “Ohio Is For Emo Kids.”
Featuring parodies of various “emo” bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Silverstein, The Used and, of course, Hawthorne Heights, Alonge’s latest combination of songs pokes fun at sacred emo traditions such as shopping at Hot Topic, driving to Warped Tour and trading picture comments for picture comments on Myspace.
In addition to emo bands, Alonge also uses “Ohio Is For Emo Kids” to parody a couple rock bands as well like Evanescence and Linkin Park – the Linkin Park parody, according to Alonge, was written and recorded way before news of Chester Bennington’s death was announced.
“A short disclaimer,” writes Alonge about his new song. “I wrote/recorded this song several months ago and there was no way around NOT releasing it today, despite recent events. Untimely, I know. Regardless, you would REALLY have to go out of your way to get offended by that one part.”
