Finding a great music video that can truly captivate you is more important than ever. Long gone are the days of turning on MTV2 before school and watching videos while you get ready.

Instead, you’re stuck at home desperately begging for anything to distract you from the sad reality of what’s going on in the world today.

Thankfully, there are bands like post-hardcore act Tigerwine releasing videos that will leave you absolutely awestruck. Case in point, the quartet’s new animated clip for their Nothing is for You track “Scarecrow.”

Centered around the idea of accidental self-sabotage, as guitarist Steve Lichtenwalter bluntly admits, “The video has a lot to unpack.”

He adds, “Our buddy Keenan Goodwine both directed and animated it. We told him we wanted to focus on the concept of people doing themselves harm when they think they are doing themselves good.”

To check out the eerie video plus our quick Q&A with Lichtenwalter detailing the new video and their recently released album, be sure to look below. Afterward, make sure to grab a copy of Nothing is for You here

Congrats on releasing your new album! How strange was it to drop Nothing is for You with everything going on in the world right now?

Steve Lichtenwalter: Honestly doing anything in any capacity during all of this has been strange. But we have had a ton of pretty peculiar obstacles in our way over the last few years and releasing this record feels incredibly cathartic even in the midst of a pandemic.

Looking at Nothing is for You compared to 2017′s Die With Your Tongue Out (especially songs like “Spit” and “Rainier”), things seem to be a little lighter musically this time around. Did that have anything to do with the album’s overall theme?

I’ve described the new record as having prettier melodic portions and heavier “heavy” portions. Much of DWYTO was written as a three-piece band (though recorded as a four-piece) as I used to play drums before I had switched to guitar. I think a lot of the sound on that record is reflective of having less instruments to work with.

Nothing is for You was our first true four-piece writing experience and I think freeing Hayden up to focus on singing more without having to play complex leads did wonders for our sound.

“Scarecrow” is certainly a standout track on the new record. How did that song come together and what does it mean for you personally?

“Scarecrow” was one of the first if not the first song we wrote for the record. We wanted to make something more melodic and it came together in about one writing session. Lyrically, the song is about frustrations with various forms of media pushing agendas over human life.

As for the new video for “Scarecrow,” there’s a lot of interesting things going on with the story. Do you mind explaining the video a little?

The video has a lot to unpack. Our buddy Keenan Goodwine both directed and animated it. We told him we wanted to focus on the concept of people doing themselves harm when they think they are doing themselves good. I think of the David Bazan lyric “you cut your leg off to save a buck or two, because you never consider the cost.” I think Keenan nailed it.

Moving forward into the rest of 2020, what else can we expect from Tigerwine?

We would love to get back on the road! We miss so many of our friends we have made across the country and are eager to make some more.
