After already breaking the world record for the longest freestyle (26 hours, in case you’re wondering) what’s there left to do for free-flowing musician Pablo Alvarez?

Well, how about releasing a new stripped-down, four-track EP of sun-soaked slacker rock with his band Good Bison?

Titled Scattered Storms, Alvarez and Co. have come together to create the perfect combination of 90′s Beck, the Dirty Heads and Mac DeMarco – lofi beach rock, maybe?

Commenting on the genre-fusing release, which is streaming today exclusively on The Noise, Alvarez notes, “Scattered Storms is the most personal project I’ve released in a long time and it also feels like the culmination of all the musical experimentation I’ve done over the years.”

He adds, “I released my first song when I was 17, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a clear idea of what I wanted to sound like or how I wanted to present myself. I just wanted to make music. What’s funny is I didn’t even consider myself a musician. I thought of myself as a writer who somehow stumbled his way onto a microphone and fell in love. It took me a while to feel comfortable seeing myself as an artist. But going into this EP I decided to fully trust my vision and create something that was representative of me in every way. I love hip-hop, I love rock, I love pop.”

As for how the four tracks “Can’t Predict The Weather,” “Black Garlic,” “Lunatic,” and “Since I Left Miami” came together, the Bogota-born artist says, “I didn’t know what these songs were going to end up being when I was writing them. My original plan was to release them acoustically. I didn’t want to worry about the production. Mauri [Viladegutt] and I did all of the initial work. We recorded the vocals, guitars and bass at my house. We also added some percussion instruments from a $5 band in a bucket playset for little kids.”

“I sent the stems to George [Spits, Slightly Stoopid producer],” he continued, “and after listening to them he called me and was basically like ‘these aren’t really acoustic anymore, would it be alright with you if I produce them a bit more?’ I didn’t want to lose the raw vibe that we had captured but I trusted George to do his thing and I told him I would love it if we could throw some real drums into the mix.”

Winding up with something he’s immensely pleased with, Alvarez concludes, “I’ve never felt as proud of a body of work as I do with this one. I finally found a lane that’s true to who I am.”
