In these uncertain times, no matter what’s going on around you or what you see on the news, it’s important to try and stay positive.

Since we realize that’s a lot easier said than done considering the unprecedented circumstances, today we’re excited to bring you a song that might just help you keep your head up.

Aptly titled “everything will be okay,” the new single from alternative singer-songwriter eli. is an emotional story about his struggle with religion and the comfort in knowing things will be just fine without it.

“As a result of being raised in a conservative Christian family from West Virginia, church was always a massive part of my life growing up,” says eli. “The older I got, the weirder it made me feel before it finally made me so uncomfortable that I asked my dad to stop going. I was required to attend until I went off to college. My father once told me years ago that he was ‘concerned for my soul’ and thought that I was going to hell.”

“It’s a weird feeling to not even believe in hell as a literal place but I find myself being scared of going there, even years after renouncing my faith,” he continues. “The indoctrination of Christianity onto me as a young child has caused me to fear hell despite not believing it now as an adult.”

While we realize this is starting to sound much more somber than uplifting, eli. adds, “This song is one of my most personal yet and is just as much me telling myself that ‘everything will be okay,’ as it is telling other people who don’t know or understand their own beliefs that it will be okay for them too. Regardless of what my beliefs are, I have the innate feeling that whatever awaits for me beyond this life isn’t eternal misery and torture. I feel a tremendous sense of goodness out there in the universe.”

As for how this song might be helpful for those unsettling coronavirus concerns, the young vocalist added, “It’s a bit of a coincidence that the song is coming out right now in the midst of all that is happening with COVID-19. This song, of course, wasn’t written about what is happening in the world right now but honestly, it could apply in some sense. ‘Everything will be okay, we’ll live to see another day.’ Hopefully, everything will be okay with all of that too.”
