Just in case you’re feeling the urge to quit your job and buy yourself a new car, avant-garde punkers Playboy Manbaby are here to help make your dreams a reality with their brand new single “Cadillac Car” and its whacky-as-hell music video.
Doing their best to re-remind everyone of Americans’ issues with materialism and their obsession with big fancy cars, the Arizona six-piece provide a catchy chorus and an infectious beat you’ll be humming along to all weekend long – whether it’s done ironically or not.
“America obviously likes to bathe itself in semi-real excess,” says vocalist Robbie Pfeffer about the new eye-opening track. “I’ve always thought the idea of openly lying to people with art was strange but it’s a cornerstone of pop culture. This video and song are all about kind of taking that excess and illusion to it’s furthest reaches. I figure if we’re going to embrace violence and opulence, let’s push it far past the point that it’s comfortable and see what it says about us.”
As for the new half-cartoon, half-live-action video animated by Pfeffer himself, he said, “My animation skills are pretty rudimentary but it’s still fun to be able to build a reality from scratch. There’s some video sprinkled in and it’s kind of an odd, two-pronged narrative. I think the final video turned out very strange but hopefully fun and enjoyable.”
