With little to no word surrounding an upcoming album, prog rock heroes Coheed And Cambria have just surprised their very large fan base with the release of a brand new single which will be featured on their just-announced eighth full-length record, The Color Before The Sun.
Following somewhat in the same path as 2013′s less-intense The Afterman: Descension, “You Got Spirit, Kid” is a pop-first-rock-later jam similar to “Number City” and “Away We Go.”
Hitting listeners with an upbeat and sort-of-sarcastic charm, Coheed’s new track is a fitting summer single perfect for a high school blockbuster tale of finding love and yourself (which is not a dig, we promise).
When asked about the new record and the fact that it will be the band’s first non-concept album, Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez let fans in on his thinking stating, “I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record. I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”
The Color Before The Sun will hit stores October 9 and can be pre-ordered here. To listen to the new single, be sure to look below.
