Going out on tour can be a pretty stressful thing when it comes to what you should pack. Do you bring extra socks and plain tees? How about headphones and a laptop? Just in case you’ve never been out on the road, we asked a few tour savvy musicians to share their essentials when packing for the Vans Warped Tour.
In this week’s What’s In My Bag feature, we reached out to the wonderful Jenna McDougall of Tonight Alive to see what kind of things she likes to bring with her out on the road. As you can probably guess, her tour essentials are just as impressive as her impeccable vocal range.
After checking out what Jenna has in her bag, make sure to not only pick up tickets to see Tonight Alive out on the Vans Warped Tour but also pick up a copy of the band’s new album Limitless here. Additionally, if you missed out on our previous What’s In My Bag write-up with Raad Soudani of Volumes and Jess Brown of The Summer Set, head here.

This probably isn’t a shock to anybody but it looks like Jenna is all about that health life while out on the road. Let’s take a look at how the Australian frontwoman avoids fast food and stays healthy on tour.
When we started touring we relied on fast food and truck stop snacks to survive, but it didn’t take us long to get sick and lethargic. Now I start my day with a smoothie, it’s easy on the digestive system and having the dietary restrictions that I do, this helps me gets my protein and nutrients on tour, when I need them the most.
Since I was young I’ve loved taking photos and documenting things. I had a little film camera as a kid and have since always loved the idea of the single, untouched moment that film can give you. This camera has been so valuable to us on our travels.
Health is everything on the road and this humidifier has been a lifesaver for my voice. Living in a metal tin can has its perks but air conditioning, generator rumble and the general disconnect from the outdoors doesn’t always do you good. I like using oil in my humidifiers (one in the front lounge and one in the back) for a bit of aromatherapy.
I love atmosphere and creating a comfortable environment to live in is important to me. Burning Nag Champa on our bus seems to put everyone in a peaceful and renewed state. We often have it on after cleaning up and guests are always appreciative.
I’m not a crazy dedicated reader but I always seem to bring a mini library with me on the road. I’m generally into psychology, self-help and metaphysics but can only read a handful of pages at a time to absorb it all.
