Welcome back, everybody! After a brief hiatus, we are glad to announce that #WeirdWednesday is back! We hope you know that we missed you and are excited to continue bringing you the all that is awesome in the world of non-breakdown music.

Now for those of you who may not remember, today is the day we share some material that you may not find on your typical “hardcore blog.” So, before we begin, let us forewarn you: THERE ARE NO BREAKDOWNS IN TODAY’S MUSIC.

After listening to today’s batch of songs, be sure to tweet us at @thenoise and let us know which ones you enjoyed the most.

See you next week!

Hostage Calm – “A Thousand Miles Away From Here”

Here in 2014, Hostage Calm has started to build quite the buzz for themselves. With their latest release Die on Stage earning positive reviews from the likes of Consequence of Sound, New Noise Magazine and other respectable online music sites, it’s no surprise to hear their name come up so frequently here around the office. While currently ripping it up on the road with the popular alt-punk rockers, Citizen, we expect by year’s end to hear the name Hostage Calm a lot more.

Wank For Peace – “Was That What You Expected Kid?”

Yes, this band goes by the name Wank For Peace. Yes, they like to dress up in cute animal costumes. No, they are not from the United States. But does all that really matter? To us, all we care about is that this French pop-punk quartet likes to have fun and make some killer tunes. If you’re a fan of “Was That What You Expected Kid?” like we are, you can download their latest LP Fail Forward on Bandcamp

Nouns – “I Feel As Though I’ve Failed”

To be honest, we here at the Noise never thought we’d come across a band by the name Nouns. Out of all the band names out there, this one seems to be the most baffling. We’re not sure whether it’s the lack of creativity in the name, the ridiculously high amount of searching you must do to find them online or just the utter simplicity of the name. Whatever it is that puzzles us so much, it definitely doesn’t interfere with their impressive post-punk sound which you can hear throughout their latest full-length, Still.

Don’t Look Back – “Take it Back”

Listening to Don’t Look Back takes us back to a better time. A time where Myspace ruled the Internet, CDs were still being purchased and Justin Bieber was just a Canadian kid no one had ever heard of. Yes, we are referring to the good ol’ days of the 2000’s. Incorporating early influences of Senses Fail, Rufio and Thrice, Don’t Look Back’s power-pop sound is like a flash to the past – but in a good way, of course. To hear more from this Central Florida five-piece, you can head over to their Bandcamp page to pick up their newest EP.

The Gotobeds – “New York’s Alright”

After already featuring some pretty interesting band names this week like Nouns and Wank For Peace, we’re going to add to that list with The Gotobeds. This four piece from Pittsburgh isn’t afraid to speak their mind as the opening lyrics to “New York’s Alright” claim “New York’s alright if you can get your dick sucked.” Having never ventured to New York ourselves, we can’t really say we agree with these gents. However, that isn’t stopping us from tapping our toes to this catchy tune.
